This workshop is designed for those who have already received the basic training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, but would like to review theory and practice.

Stage 1, cycle de-escalation takes couples through the heightened negative cycle of conflict and disconnection to a place of new possibilities based on an emerging capacity for mutual empathy. Using the 5 basic moves of EFT, known as the EFT Tango, we will also review therapist interventions that help guide couples to greater security. Some didactic, some video demos, and some experiential exercises will keep the day lively and varied.

Participants will be able to:

1. Describe Stage 1 of Emotionally Focused Therapy
2. Demonstrate mirroring and reflection of present process when working with a couple
3. Demonstrate affect assembly and deepening when working with a couple
4. Prepare couples for choreographed engaged encounters
5. Demonstrate the ability to help couples process an engaged encounter
6. Demonstrate ability to validate and help couples integrate engaged encounters

Danielle Green, LICSW is a founding partner of the Northeast Contact Center Forum (NECCF).  She received her MSW from Columbia University in 1993 and completed 5 years of further specialist training in couples and family therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, in New York City. She worked and taught at Cornell Medical Center for 10 years before relocating to Boston to serve as Clinical and Training Director of the Couple and Family Therapy Program, at the Cambridge Health Alliance, Harvard Medical School. There, she trained social workers, psychiatrists and psychologists, and taught throughout the Harvard system. Danielle was certified as an EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) therapist in 2010 and as a certified supervisor in 2011. She has studied AEDP and trauma work with Janina Fisher and has recently embarked on studying Peter Levine’s work on Somatic Experiencing.

Nancy KnudsenNancy Knudsen, LMFT is a Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Northampton, MA with over 35 years experience in the field. She uses a family systems orientation to work with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of issues. Over the past 10 years, Nancy’s primary clinical modality has been Emotionally Focused Therapy. She is a certified EFT therapist as well as a certified EFT supervisor, and serves on the planning committee of the New England Center for  EFT. Nancy has taught a number of workshops on EFT for professionals. Additionally, she is a Past President of the Massachusetts Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. She is co-founder and co-director of the Couple and Family Institute of New England.
